Book of the Month

Mere Christianity
      by C. S. Lewis

Not a new book.  Not an easy read.  But one every believer or someone considering Christ should pick up and give the time to reading.
    C. S. Lewis was an Atheist.  He did all he could to rail against Christianity.
Then he got it.  Check it out.

The Left Behind Series

by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins

The Left Behind Series has been around for a while.  In fact, the whole series was written and finished several years ago.  But I just started reading it recently.  And I have been flying through the series.  I am just about to finish the 11th book, leaving only one more title in the series to read.

One must remember that the book is fiction.  However, it is based on scripture straight out of the Bible, and the authors use the entire series as a ministry to help people understand what it means to come to Christ and stay there.

I suggest reading the series from start to finish.  You won't be sorry.

UPDATE:  I finished The Glorious Appearing, the 12th book in the series last week.  I will be looking for and buying the 13th book soon.  It is the absolute last in the series according to Jenkins/LaHaye.

I have started reading Babylon Rising, LaHaye's new series, in the meantime.  I just finished this first book of the series (2004) and it was pretty good.  A bit predictable at some points and a little too convenient at others, but still a decent Christian read.  I will be reading on in the series.

When I come across something that I feel will enhance a seeker or believer's experience with learning about or becoming closer to God and Christ, I review it and/or place a link on this page.

The Shack

                by William Paul Young

This one has been on my site for a while, and it's going to stay.  That's how much I like this one.

Believer or not, this book is a terrific read, shattering stereotypes and religious dogma.  A relatively quick read, it is very satisfying to the hungry reader’s appetite.

Young has a method of making you feel things from a fresh perspective.  He does so via taking your box of ingrained pictures of God, picking it up, turning it over, and shaking out the contents all over your spiritual bed.  He spends the rest of the book putting it all back into your picture box, completely reshaping the visage of God that you started out with.

Splendid, front to back.  Suggestion?  Save yourself the trip and buy the two or three extra copies that you will wind up getting for someone you love anyway.

Have you heard of Join the Journey?  It’s a great method of getting into the Bible and having others help you understand it.

Take a year-long trip through the Old or New Testament.  Delve into a certain book of the Bible.

We're about to get starting on another round of entries for January 2010.  We begin writing them in the fall of 2009.  I'm excited about doing this again and I urge youto sign up for the daily emails with entries.
